BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday thanked Equatorial Guinea for respecting the territorial integrity of Serbia and for its support in the UN at the time resolutions against Serbia's vital interests had been passed.

At a press conference with Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is on an official visit to Serbia, Vucic said Equatorial Guinea could always count on any kind of support and assistance from Serbia.

"It is our obligation and our duty, but it is not just that - we share a conviction that sovereign, independent and free countries must make their decisions, decisions that create their future, on their own," Vucic noted.

He said Serbia was honoured by Mbasogo's visit and felt a responsibility to do everything in its power to advance bilateral cooperation.

"Thank you for your support for the territorial integrity of Serbia, especially since I know that, when it comes to that, you pay attention to every gesture, anywhere in the world. Thank you also for the support in the uneasy times when resolutions against Serbia and against our interests were passed in the UN," Vucic said.

He said his meeting with Mbasogo had addressed cooperation in all areas and that a bilateral committee comprised of the ministers of economy, agriculture and digitalisation was in the process of being set up.

Vucic announced a Serbian delegation would visit the capital of Equatorial Guinea in two months to agree concrete steps of cooperation.

He said the discussed areas of cooperation included education for university students from Equatorial Guinea as well as agriculture and construction.

"I believe we have a huge chance to advance our relations in all those areas," Vucic said.
