BELGRADE - Serbian First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic received Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Yahel Vilan on Friday.
The parties exchanged views on the state of bilateral relations and opportunities to advance them.
Dacic expressed regret over Israel's decision to recognise the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called "Kosovo", which has had a negative impact on Serbia-Israel bilateral relations, but noted that, in spite of this, common interests must be sought, above all, for the sake of benefits to both peoples, which have often shared a tragic fate throughout history, especially during WWII.
The parties expressed interest in continued economic cooperation, which has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, with Israeli investments growing in the period.
Israel is one of the major investors in Serbia, especially in the transport and real estate construction sectors.
Dacic said he hoped a recent introduction of direct flights between Belgrade and Tel Aviv would have a positive impact on economic and tourist exchange between the two countries.
The parties also exchanged views on the situation in Israel.
Dacic noted that Serbia supported establishment of lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and hoped a way would be found in the future to reach an agreement that would contribute to better life for all people in that region, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
