BELGRADE - At a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, Serbian Deputy PM and Defence Minister Milos Vucevic thanked Russia for its constant support for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia.

Retaining the status of a militarily neutral state that is not a member of any existing military-political organisation is a long-term strategic commitment of Serbia, a statement released by the Ministry of Defence quoted Vucevic as saying.

Vucevic informed the ambassador of the current security situation in Serbia's southern province of Kosovo-Metohija and unilateral moves the Pristina interim authorities are making to spark conflicts and destabilise the region.

Botsan-Kharchenko thanked Vucevic for the hospitality and the opportunity to discuss the current security situation in the province and Serbia-Russia bilateral cooperation, including cooperation in defence.
