BRUSSELS - EU spokesperson Peter Stano said on Thursday the EU expected the new government of Serbia to demonstrate its commitment to the country's EU path.
At a Brussels press briefing, Stano said the EU looked forward to cooperating with the new Serbian government in its efforts to achieve EU membership as Serbia's strategic goal.
He also said Serbia, as a membership candidate, must do everything in its power to meet certain criteria that, when it comes to foreign policy, meant it must become more aligned with EU decisions and positions.
Asked to comment on the fact the proposed members of the new Serbian government include people under US sanctions, Stano said Aleksandar Vulin's actions and statements in the past years had been contrary to Serbia's goal when it comes to meeting commitments related to EU accession and to not developing counterproductive ties with the Russian regime.
