BELGRADE - The main goal of the Serbian government is to boost the competitiveness of, and modernise production at, SMEs and a partnership with the EU is where major support for this objective comes from, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy Branimir Stojanovic said Wednesday.

The support also comes from participation in EU programmes such as COSME and Horizon 2020, as well as from regional programmes and national IPA funds, he said.

"So far, five financial mediators have taken part in the COSME programme, and the Serbian SME sector will have access to over 740 mln euros worth of favourable loans through that programme," Stojanovic told an Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) conference of southeast European consortiums.

Since the very beginning, the Ministry of Economy has been supporting the EEN, which is another important element of the COSME programme, a statement from the ministry quoted him as saying.
