BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Information and Telecommunications Dejan Ristic and Israeli Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi signed a memorandum on cooperation in telecommunications and postal services in Belgrade on Thursday.
"It is a great honour and a pleasure to have an Israeli minister of communications in Belgrade after so many years so that we can initiate and advance cooperation between our countries and our ICT sectors, as well as between our postal services," Ristic said at a press conference with Karhi.
He said Israel's achievements in the ICT sector were truly marvellous and completely exceptional.
He added that the Serbian ICT sector had been very successful, too, but that there was more to learn from Israeli friends and partners about the ICT sector and postal services.
Ristic noted a need to share experiences and keep "pushing forward."
He said that, at a meeting in Belgrade earlier in the day, it had been agreed for the two ICT sectors to cooperate more and be more present in third markets.
He called on Israeli companies to invest in Serbia more, but also urged Serbian firms to invest in Israel.
"Cooperation between Israel and Serbia is flourishing in various fields - not only political but also economic, cultural and many other fields, and we want to contribute to that cooperation through our portfolios," Ristic said.
Karhi said the memorandum marked "a significant milestone that reflects our shared vision for technological advancement and enhanced security and economic prosperity."
"This agreement paves the way for cooperation in groundbreaking fields, such as 5G, IoT, ultra-fast internet, cyber security, AI and online child protection, fields that will drive innovation, safety and prosperity for both our nations," Karhi said.
"This memorandum is a commitment to real action, promoting digital transformation, economic opportunities and deeper cultural ties," he also said.
