SKOPJE - Serbian PM Milos Vucevic said on Monday in Skopje the governments of Serbia and North Macedonia had agreed and signed a MoU on joint construction of a 70 km gas pipeline with an annual capacity of around 1.2 bln cubic meters.
At a press conference with North Macedonian PM Hristijan Mickoski, Vucevic said the MoU between the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy and its North Macedonian equivalent would lead to the construction of a new natural gas interconnector.
Serbia aims to obtain another gas supply route from the Greek city of Alexandroupolis via North Macedonia, he said.
"Our strategic decision is to diversify our natural gas supply sources. We, of course, do not want to lose any of our partners but to expand the number of partners interested in cooperating with us in the energy sector and that will definitely lead, or contribute to, our state's energy stability," Vucevic said, adding that Mickoski had proposed building a joint oil pipeline simultaneously with the gas interconnector.
He said infrastructure and energy had been the dominant topics at a meeting with Mickoski because both industry and small consumers needed more and more electricity.
