BELGRADE- Serbian First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic met with US Congressman Eric Swalwell in Belgrade on Wednesday to discuss topics that included Serbia's efforts to boost further its cooperation with representatives of all arms of the US government, especially the US Congress.
Dacic said he was pleased Swalwell was visiting Serbia as part of a cooperation programme established in 2015 to enable officials of the US administration and the Congress to visit Serbia to better familiarise themselves with the situation in the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Dacic pointed out that Serbia and the US maintained long-standing relations that had been characterised by a strong and firm alliance in the most difficult times in history and that this was a fact that should be borne in mind during continued advancement of the present bilateral relations.
Swalwell expressed US support to the dialogue process as part of the process of normalisation of Belgrade-Pristina relations.
He also welcomed efforts invested by Serbia to improve the economic situation and noted that the US was striving to provide the necessary support on that path.
Both parties commended the engagement of each other's ambassadors and Swalwell especially praised the engagement of Serbian Ambassador to Washington Marko Djuric towards advancement of bilateral relations and said it had resulted in a significant rise of Serbia's reputation in the US, the statement also said.
