BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic put forward Slavica Djukic Dejanovic as new education minister on Wednesday.
Djukic Dejanovic is a doctor of medicine who has specialised in neuropsychiatry.
"She is a seven-time MP in the Serbian parliament and the federal parliaments of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the state union of Serbia and Montenegro. She was minister of family affairs in Serbia's transitional government. She was also Serbian parliament speaker from 2008 to 2012 and performed the duty of acting president of Serbia from the beginning of April 2012 to the end of May 2012," Brnabic said in the Serbian parliament.
She added that Djukic Dejanovic had also served as Serbian health minister from 2012 to 2014 and minister without portfolio for demographics and population policy from August 2016 to October 2016.
"Afterwards, I asked Slavica to perform the role of my special adviser for implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda - the 2020-2030 agenda on education, the fight against poverty and climate change, which also aims to ensure that no one in society is forgotten or excluded," Brnabic said.
If elected by MPs, Djukic Dejanovic will succeed Branko Ruzic, who resigned after May's deadly mass shooting in a primary school in downtown Belgrade.
