BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday Serbia's ruling coalition was in favour of meeting an opposition demand for early elections and announced that discussions about this would begin after a September 14 meeting of the Brussels dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and a September 19-26 UN General Assembly session.
In a public address, Vucic said that, after that, he would first meet with representatives of the ruling parties to ask them to consider all "demands and threats" by parties from the "previous regime."
"After those discussions, since the role of the president of the Republic is also important in this as the Constitution happens to mandate that the president of the Republic call elections following a substantiated proposal by the government, I will make a decision in line with the Constitution," Vucic said, adding that this would be "important for democracy in Serbia."
