Brnabic: Good meeting with Guterres, he is hoping for peace

NEW YORK - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said she had had a brief and good meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York and that he was familiar with the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.

"He is hoping for peace. He is currently dealing with the war in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine. They all expect us to keep things under control and that we do not have another conflict in Europe," Brnabic told reporters after addressing the UN Security Council on Monday evening.

She added that Serbia had significant support from the UN and UNMIK, the UN mission in Kosovo-Metohija.

"I have no objections to make about the UNMIK report, it is factually accurate," Brnabic said.

She noted that conflicts were not in Serbia's interest and that the country needed peace and stability.

She said that, at the same time, Belgrade could not leave Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija in the lurch.

"We have to fight by diplomatic means. Compromise is the only way out of this situation," Brnabic said.

"It will never be easy," she said, noting that Serbia was not shunning difficult things but that it was known what its red lines were.
