BELGRADE - Commenting on reports by German media that German universities were paying students to change their places of residence and move to regions dominated by the opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) ahead of European elections in the country, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday evening he believed the "phenomenon" would be examined by Serbian authorities as this was important for Serbia's European orientation in the future.

"I do not deal with the situation in Germany in as great detail as they are dealing with the situation in our country. But I believe Ana Brnabic, as parliament speaker, will show interest in this 'phenomenon' of place of residence changes and in how students are being sent from one community to another, and how 'God-pleasing' that is," Vucic said ironically at a press conference after being asked to comment on the reports.

That is important for our future European orientation and for learning how it is done on the European path, he noted.

"What part of what 'aquis' is that, and why have not they commended us for the fact that, for example, as many as one voter has moved to Belgrade from Mala Krsna? So that we can give him some kind of letter of appreciation as he was the only one behaving in line with European rules. I believe Ana will do that, it is not my job," Vucic added.
