VALJEVO - The fact the opposition requested urgent parliamentary elections in Serbia and local elections in Belgrade by the end of 2023 indicates that they know there are no problems with electoral conditions, Serbian Parliament Speaker and Serbian Progressive Party deputy leader Ana Brnabic said in Valjevo on Friday.
Asked by reporters how opposition parties would react to a statement by the OSCE mission chief that fair electoral conditions existed in Serbia, Brnabic said all opposition claims about elections had now been quashed.
"Let me ask all citizens of the Republic of Serbia a question: Dear citizens, had the opposition had doubts about electoral conditions, the electoral roll, democracy and the possibility of holding fair and transparent elections, would it have requested urgent elections? Of course not - it would have focused on electoral conditions and the electoral roll," Brnabic said.
She said implementation of ODIHR recommendations would definitely be continued and added that, to a large extent, they were much softer than the ones issued to other European countries including Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.
