BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Tuesday in Belgrade with Giulio Tremonti, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of Italy's House of Representatives, and an Italian delegation and said Serbia appreciated Italy's support for its EU membership.
In a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic wrote the meeting had been "excellent."
"I congratulated Mr Tremonti on the success his party has achieved in the recent elections for the European Parliament and expressed the hope Serbia's cooperation with that institution will be advanced and more constructive once it has been constituted."
He added that Serbia appreciated Italy's support for its EU membership and welcomed the adoption of a Western Balkans Growth Plan for comprehensive reforms in the region.
That way, the EU has demonstrated a commitment to deepen and intensify European integration in the region, he noted.
"Proud that overall bilateral relations and cooperation between our two countries are being advanced and intensified continuously, and extremely pleased with the fact that, for years, Italy has been a leading economic partner of Serbia, like Serbia is Italy's largest external trade partner in the region," Vucic also wrote.
