Drecun: No EU mechanism or bureaucrats can make Belgrade recognise so-called Kosovo

BELGRADE - The chairman of the Serbian parliamentary committee on defence and interior affairs Milovan Drecun said on Thursday no mechanism of the EU or some European bureaucrats would be able to make Belgrade accept to recognise the false state of "Kosovo."

Drecun was commenting on a statement by Tobi Vogel of the Democratisation Policy Council that the nomination of Estonian Kaja Kallas as the new EU foreign security and policy chief was positive for Pristina as she would take a much sterner attitude towards Belgrade "in terms of policy and atmosphere" compared to current incumbent Josep Borrell and EU special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Miroslav Lajcak.

If a firmer stance is to be taken to achieve progress in the dialogue, Pristina is the party that should be on the receiving end of it, Drecun told Tanjug.

"Anyone who might attempt to misuse the dialogue and the French-German proposal of an agreement or to get Belgrade to recognise the false state of 'Kosovo' either de facto or de iure is greatly deluded. No mechanism of either the EU or some European bureaucrats will be able to make Belgrade accept to recognise the false state of 'Kosovo,'" Drecun noted.

He said Belgrade should have great reservations about Kallas, mainly because she came from a country that recognised the so-called "Kosovo".

Drecun also said Vogel's statement reflected a Western stereotype suggesting that Belgrade - not Pristina - was the party hampering progress in the dialogue.
