BELGRADE - The green transition is Serbia's permanent commitment, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic said at a meeting with Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski on Wednesday.
She noted the significance of cooperation with the Energy Community in planning and implementing activities that will result in a higher share of renewables in Serbia's energy mix and a reduction of harmful gas emissions, the Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a statement.
Djedovic noted that implementation of energy and climate objectives implied that Serbia must preserve its energy stability while implementing the goals of the green transition, which must be financially and socially sustainable and help to maintain a strong and sustainable energy system over the long term.
She pointed out that, besides ensuring safe energy and fuel supplies amid the energy crisis, energy sector reforms - including more efficient operation of energy companies - were one of the priorities.
"The fact Serbia has opened Cluster 4, which relates to the Green Agenda and sustainable connectivity, is an encouragement for us to work even more efficiently on aligning our legislation with EU requirements and regulations," she said.
Lorkowski said he was pleased to see Serbia's commitment to the path of energy transition and noted the country could count on full support from the Energy Community on that path.
He noted that the international energy organisation would continue to support Serbia on the path of energy decarbonisation, the statement also said.
