BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic on Thursday dismissed as untrue reports by some opposition media outlets that Serbian authorities were including ghost voters in electoral rolls ahead of the December 17 elections in the country.

Brnabic said this at an extraordinary press conference she had called because the topic was "very serious for our citizens, democracy and rule of law" and concerned "trust in the electoral process."

"This year, we have again faced accusations that we, as the opposition is saying, are including ghost voters in the electoral roll in Belgrade," Brnabic said, adding that opposition MP Miroslav Aleksic had said 300 to 500 ghost voters were being registered in Belgrade every day.

"The truth is always the first victim of political struggle," she said, noting that the police had found a similar allegation by opposition MP Djordje Miketic to be false.

Miketic has claimed he had unregistered from his address of residence an unknown person who he said was a ghost voter included in the electoral roll, and provided instructions to the public on how to do that.
