BELGRADE - The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) instant payment system on Friday executed its ten millionth transaction.

The transaction took place at 10.45.55 am, the NBS announced in a statement.

"Over ten million payments worth 123.7 bln dinars have been processed in the Instant Payments Serbia (IPS) system since its launch fifteen months ago."

"In Q4 2019, the number of transactions rose significantly compared to the first three quarters of the year. The growth in the number and value of transactions was particularly pronounced in December 2019 and January 2020, when the number of payments exceeded 1,500,000 a month. This means that citizens and corporates are increasingly recognising the advantages of the system. January 2020 saw the record number of 1,536,783 payments, though performance in this period is usually weaker than in other months of the year.

Instant payments are currently available via e- and m-banking, and through submission of payment orders at payment service providers’ tellers," the NBS said.
