NOVI SAD - Spain maintains excellent cooperation with Serbia at all levels and bilateral trade has been growing at double-figure rates over the past five years, Javier Alvarez, head of the department of economic affairs and commerce at the Spanish embassy in Belgrade, has told Tanjug at the Novi Sad Intenational Agriculture Fair.

The volume of bilateral trade was around 0.5 mln euros last year, with Spanish exports to Serbia accounting for around 300 mln euros of the total, he said.

The agriculture and food sector has a significant share of bilateral trade, Alvarez said.

"We are very satisfied because we have noticed there is interest in Serbia in imports of Spanish meat, fish, fruits and vegetables. We believe this can be even better especially when it comes to processed products such as olive oil or some processed meat products," he said.

"On the other hand, Spain chiefly imports grains from Serbia but I personally believe there is room for imports of Serbian gastronomic products," he said.
