BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with EU sanctions envoy David O'Sullivan in Belgrade on Thursday.
Vucic reiterated that Serbia was committed to cooperation with the EU in the field of foreign, security and defence policy but that, when considering any decision on potential measures targeting any state, it was governed exclusively by international law and protection of its own interests.
In a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic said he had had an open meeting with O'Sullivan.
"I reiterated that Serbia is committed to cooperation with the EU in the field of foreign, security and defence policy, while respecting commitments issuing from the SAA and the Negotiating Framework, but that, when considering any decision on potential introduction of measures targeting any state, it is governed exclusively by international law and protection of its own national, state, political and economic interests," Vucic said.
According to an official statement released by the presidential press office after the meeting, Vucic told O'Sullivan that, even though it had not imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation, Serbia, as a credible partner, would leave no room for being used for illegal activities that would enable third countries to bypass the regime of EU restrictive measures.
