Vucevic: Serbia remains on EU path as its main political objective

BLED - Serbian PM Milos Vucevic said in Bled, Slovenia, on Monday Serbia had no "plan B" when it comes to its EU path and that EU accession had been a geostrategic definition of Serbia and its main political objective in the past 20 years.

Serbia remains on the EU path, he told a Bled Strategic Forum panel of government leaders.

That is something we have not changed and do not want to change, he said, adding that Serbia was proud of the results achieved on its EU path.

We have had a huge, serious and deep judicial reform and, of course, a reform dealing with electoral and media issues and many issues that are very important in the overall reform process, Vucevic said.

He said he could not discuss whether a major EU enlargement would happen in 2030 or some other year as membership candidates had been bombarded with many potential dates and years in the past while, unfortunately, no enlargement had taken place.

He noted that he believed the countries and the people of the Western Balkans deserved that to happen much sooner.

Addressing the panel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she wanted to see a strong Europe that would include Ukraine and Western Balkan states.
