BELGRADE - Serbian Defence Minister Milos Vucevic said on Monday the number of Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) special troops would be increased from 1,500 to 5,000 by the end of 2023.

"Last night, SAF Chief of General Staff Gen Milan Mojsilovic and I received a task from the president of the Republic as commander-in-chief for the SAF to raise the number of its special troops from 1,500 to 5,000 by the end of 2023," Vucevic said.

Thus, the SAF will have 5,000 highly trained and highly prepared soldiers, NCOs and officers who will have completed leading-edge training and will be equipped with the most modern weapons and equipment to defend the fatherland and execute any task at any time anywhere in Serbian territory, Vucevic said.

The special troops will be ready to respond to all challenges faced by our fatherland, Vucevic said.
