Orlic receives El Gebaly

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic met with the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives Hanafy El Gebaly on Thursday.

The parties agreed that the meeting reconfirmed an intensive political dialogue.

El Gebaly conveyed to Orlic the regards of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the people of Egypt, the Serbian parliament said in a statement.

El Gebaly said Egypt was proud of its partnership and friendship with Serbia, and welcomed the fact this year marked the 115th anniversary of Serbia-Egypt bilateral relations, noting that the ties between the Serbs and Egyptians are centuries old.

Orlic and El Gebaly agreed the respect and trust between the presidents of Serbia and Egypt, as well as El Sisi's historic visit to Belgrade last year, gave a strong impetus to the relations.

Orlic said that, thanks to their successful leaderships, both countries were seeing major progress in many areas, proving their commitment to development and to the well-being of their citizens and an even better future for them.

El Gebaly said the goals of his visit were to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, support a continued and intensive exchange of visits at all levels and strengthen the communication between working bodies.

They discussed cooperation in the economy, agriculture, the construction sector and science and also exchanged views on present challenges facing Serbia and Egypt.

Orlic took the opportunity to inform El Gebaly of the difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija and Serbia's efforts to maintain peace and stability.

El Gebaly said Egypt understood Serbia's position on Kosovo-Metohija and supported all efforts to maintain peace in the region.
